ABOUT

​

During my stay in Kyoto Japan in 2023, I have been investigating the bamboo forests of Kyoto with Butoh dancers under the theme "forest baths", (Japanese silence method Shinrin Yoku) as a practice of listening from the body. In this work, I seek to express the information gathered from the attentive listening with the body in the forest. In a rhythm of breathing and movement affected by the environment through dance and music. In the video, the body movement of butoh dancer Kenta Masukawa is proposed as a means for the audience to experience a kind of inhabiting the border. Between the forest as a technological organism body, and its interrelation with the human body in the nightclub environment, taking the nightclub as an icon of urbanity. The original techno and house music track evokes the idea of basement and passage, between bright light and darkness, the same means that can inhabit a Forest and a Club simultaneously and the same means that can connect them to each other.
